I would start by focusing on the goal…what is the right influence and commitment. Then I would look at different options to achieve the goal…with the combination of approaches (event, communications, conversations, etc). By sharing the options with my boss, I can see what actions he/she likes and pull together ideas that extend the approach beyond just the event. With the options and ideas brought to the boss, it show this is well thought through, and it saves the boss from thinking of their own ideas. I get to see quickly what the boss supports and get to an action plan faster.
