Motivation is personal, so I need to look for what are the key motivations for each of my people. For the have to, I need to make the commitments of everyone in the team more visible. That will drive the peer pressure to deliver or they will look bad in front of their fellow teammates if they don’t. The want to is more difficult, because that is even more personal. It’s part observation and questions to uncover what is the top motivation for your people at this time…and it is worth the effort to try and uncover it.
