Usually when a hire performer is not conforming to the guidelines, they want to stand out in front of others and be viewed as special. Being special is really a short-term benefit, as success is really a team sport. Being special separates them from others, and ultimately they will be losing influence. I would talk with this person about how their behavior can lead to them lose influence with others, and also impact their career advancement. People don’t like the feeling of losing influence, and often this is enough to want to make some type of change. It is key for you to get them to talk through what that change could be and reinforce it with them routinely.
