If this is in your area, you need to take action on it, but maybe in a way where you can make it better. This is not your boss’s main area, so their interest is not great in it either. If you deliver a good job in your way, your boss shouldn’t really care. The key is delivering to your boss’s expectations, and since this isn’t so important to the boss, you might be able to create and manage expectations that fit what you want to do.
