Any time you have a person with unique knowledge, you also have a business risk. I would partner this person with another talented person in your team that could pick up this knowledge quickly and how best to use it. Also, I would have a conversation with this person about their decisiveness and pro-activeness when you have a few recent examples to illustrate this. A lack of decisiveness will really limit this person’s career.
