The first step is to fully acknowledge the impact of my behavior—not only on my professional relationships but also on my career progression. In moments of frustration or anger, I’ll commit to pausing for a few seconds or even stepping out of the room if necessary. This break will give me time to collect my thoughts and reframe my emotional response before speaking. I will share my goal of improving emotional regulation with a trusted colleague or coach who can help hold me accountable and offer feedback. A professional coach could help and I could also seek mentorship from a senior leader. I could ask for anonymous feedback from my team on how they perceive my communication and leadership style.
